If you got an early flight ✈️ let’s say at 5-6 a.m. and you ain’t that lucky to get a night bus (fully booked) or train (another strike) , and you have to arrive early to the airport, let’s say you had arrived at 1a.m. then you’d have to arm yourself with patience, probably you would be still stranded outside the departure-security gate, with the rest “refugees”-passengers fighting for the seat or sleeping on the floor, but as soon you pass the security gate, it’s another world - full of duty shops, liquor stores and restaurants, though all the lounges still will be closed. The airport is pretty easy to navigate in and out, you can find all amenities you need, and it’s pretty clean.

The Gatwick Airport South Terminal was pretty good, nothing to complain about. Fairly easy to get to, large and not cramped, a good selection of stores and cafes/restaurants. The Duty Free section was pretty good too.

If you are a smoker then it won't be your favourite, a part from the smoking area outside at the front of the terminal there are no other smoking areas, keep that in mind.

Get there early as it can get very busy. We flew out of North Terminal therefore the below is for North Terminal.

Security - is well worth paying the £5 in advance to skip the lines
Check in - easy and fast
Shopping - Good options from Harrods, Boos, Dune, WH Smith’s, Sports shop, Sunglass Hut, UK shops, great Duty free and many more
Dining - Lots of options but during busy times expect to wait almost 45 min. Highly recommend Juniper & Co.

Probably 1 of the best airports that I have used for years. Really good communication with train station 1 min linked to the south terminal, you would need the FREE 5 min shuttle to get to north terminal . Constant National buses stopping at south and north terminal. Also you have plenty of parking places , inside the airport and long stay parking with free bus. For departures in South Terminal , you would need to go to 1st floor, and use stairs/lift, the same with North Terminal. Make sure you bring your liquids max 100ml in a measure plastic bag for the security boarding as otherwise sometimes you would have to wait long time to be reviewed. They offer also special assistance by pressing the call button at the parking area.

NORSE HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Waited in the premium line for over an hour to check in to our flight back to New York. There were initially two counters to process the premium line, but later down to ZERO because the ONLY premium counter decided to check in only passengers to LA (an earlier flight). WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING A PREMIUM LINE WHEN NO COUNTER CHECKS IN PASSENGERS WHO PAID EXTRA FOR PREMIUM SERVICE?

It's my closest and most frequently used airport. I fly regularly, which means I'm always seeing building work undertaken. This isn't a criticism as, from my point of view, it means the airport is always improving. Convenient train station in the airport that allows you to disembark to cheaply travel onwards with hailing an Uber. Be aware that trains do not run until 2.00 am. in the morning if you arrive on a night flight.

Long stay parking was straight forward to find and shuttle bus came right away (comes every 10 minutes).

Easy to navigate to the North Terminal via the train.

Fast and efficient check in and boarding.

So you get a ticket right? For a plane. But there’s no gate provided. You have to stand around and wait, watching a screen with a million other people and their small un-observant children, to see where your flight will depart from. My ticket says boarding starts at 20:15. The screen says it won’t tell you your gate until 20:21. Boarding closes 20 minutes prior to departure. It’s a 6-9 minute walk to the furthest gates. My flight is at 20:55. With all the information provided I have a total of 14 minutes minus the walk so that’s effectively 9 minutes total.

I have never in my life felt such confusion and anxiety waiting for a flight. All the while a mob of people are pushing past you and bumping in to you. For 250 Euros for the flight? What a rip off.
