Lots of places to explore and state rooms are full of collected items. Still a family home. Great views over the sea and surrounding lane. You can drive up to the gate if you’re not very mobile.

Fantastic place with a beautiful beach, plenty of places for food and a great long day out if the weather is nice. My dogs and kids had a blast, the beach is the perfect mix between sandy and rocky with fantastic views of castle and lighthouses in the distance!

Beautiful setting. Make sure you make time to be able to walk down to the beach and get that terrific photo from that angle. Didn't know it was privately owned. The history is terrific.

Love this castle. Plan on spending a few hours there. Beautiful beach on the back side as well. Just perfect views. Nice cafe on the grounds for a quick bite.

Brilliant castle & views. Very well worth looking around, especially as they have a permanent exhibition of Utred & the Last Kingdom.
A lot of work is going on to keep the Castle in good condition, so the entrance fee is well worth it.
The views are fabulous.
Although we had our dog with us & he wasn't allowed in the state rooms, we both managed to view the interior by taking turns walking him around the grounds.
When it poured with rain, we found somewhere inside to shelter.

Absolutely loved the castle and grounds.
Alot of effort from staff who know some amazing pieces of information. Displays are amazing, with some having a very modern twist.

Looking forward to visiting again in the future

It was an amazing experience especially when you've watched THE LAST KINGDOM. The ticket price is really fair. The surrounding landscapes are breathtaking. If I would critize one thing: I'd like to see and learn more about the first 1,000 years of the castle and less about the last 200 years.

Lovely place to visit. The views from the castle are amazing, and even though we didn't venture onto the beach, it does look like a lovely stretch of sand. The castle itself had so many different areas to explore, and had we not got plans in place for after our visit, we could have spent longer there than the hour and a half we stayed. We arrived for the 10am opening time, and it was busy enough, but not too busy. By the time we were leaving, it was definitely busier, so if you can get there early, I'd advise it. Any staff we spoke to were incredibly friendly and helpful, with one lady going out of her way to find out what the birds were that we kept seeing flitting around. She wasn't sure, but she radioed a colleague to find out for us... they were Swallows and House Martins we were told.

Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
